Re: ATLA: Live Action Movie
I believe Mr. Phoenix did a fantastic job in Gladiator. As did Mark Wahlberg in The Departed. Maybe it was just a one-time thing.
A *good* director can make *anyone* look good, if he/she knows how to play on an actor's strengths.
If the director doesn't know jackshit about actors, though, and relies on tired old WHATATWIST endings to justify a crappy beginning and middle, you get this:
And this:
And this:
And this:
Note the dead, dead faces. Is something terrible happening or did someone just cut the cheese? Shyamalot's characters react the same to a child dying as they do to learning the store is sold out of eggnog.

After seeing that last video, it made me realize that Shyamalan may be the greatest comedic director of all time. Maybe we're all just misinterpreting his movies, believing them to be dramas instead of comedies. How foolish we have been!

Re: ATLA: Live Action Movie
Well, since M. Knight thinks trained monkeys can successfully cast roles, I thought I might give it a try. I'm sure I'm just as capable as any monkey, even if not as well trained. Here's my all-star lineup for The Last Airbender, Hollywood style:
Sokka: Nicolas Cage
Aang: Bruce Willis
Katara: Barbra Streisand
Zuko: Daniel Radcliffe
Toph: Sylvester Stallone
Azula: Rosie O Donnell
Firelord Ozi: Webster
Mai: Nathan Lane
Ty Lee: Smurfette
Iroh: The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man
Foaming Mouth Guy: Steven Hawking
Edit: [Annards: We're just getting to the really comedic part of the thread and you come in all nega-Nelly on us? Oh, tut, tut. A pox on you, I say.]

Re: ATLA: Live Action Movie
Maybe I worded this wrong.
I think the arguing over this is completely immature and quite bothersome.
I'm not in any way saying this movie will be excellent or even good, but it does not mean that with this little information you are granted to tear this movie apart bit by bit.
We are, granted, a young production team, yet we are professional, and working together in such a positive way it separates us from other ragtag teams. Volunteers, yes, but professional.
Let's start acting like it.

where did u come from lol jk even though u have a point it is much better to express ur feelings to other people online, because those people probably actually care, and that's what make some arguments we have on here better because we know we have to work together in the actual forum but when we are of topic things get to be a little more fun bye got to go to skool

Ack, arguing! But I love you all.
I'm only going to judge the movie when I see it. That's all I'm going to say.
Kiffy, I always pay to watch my movies. ;_;

Ahm...I tend to uh, get frustrated occasionally haha.
Always pays for mine too...the only thing I ever cheat on is maybe candy or kettle corn (because my sister Ally is allergic to beef and dairy...s'no theater popcorn)
I don't know how she lives .-.

(last airbender trailer delayed until february)
And THAT... would be my aforementioned friend's fault. The designs, you see -- they couldn't decide on 'em. It helps to be a little more forgiving when you're on this side of the table, eh?
I'm just curious to see which audience this movie will be geared toward: the jaded, slack-jawed yokels who grew up on Avatar and will start riots in the streets if the series goes all LOTR-ish and buries the original characters in cheese? Or the McDonald's-chomping, five-second-attention-span weenies in short pants who catch the old episodes on DVD and who start yawning if something doesn't go boom in the first two minutes? How will he fit a TWEEST in there?
And yes, *gasp!* I will be paying to see this particular movie. I want the world to see that Avatar TLA does have a decent-sized fanbase that takes the series seriously. To prove that, adult tickets are gonna have to outsell the kiddie tickets. I'm willing to help with that, even if it DOES put a little mo' money in some fatcat's pocket. (And if I see an under-12 kid trying to buy a ticket, I'll kick his scrawny little ass, all the while screaming YOU'RE KILLING THE FRANCHISE! YOU'RE KILLING THE FRANCHISE!)
I also want some female TLA dolls.... finally.
More than that, I'm thrilled to have the chance to see and dissect this movie with people who "GET IT". So I'll be going, and I hope all of you will, too. I'll be paying to see this movie... once.
If it's good, I'll pay to see it again... and again... and again. I'll stop people in the streets and invite them to come see the movie, offering free tickets and popcorn. If it sucks, well.... the INTERNET WILL FEEL MY WRATH!!! GARRRRR!
(AND I'll be posting a bootleg here on the forums the day it opens, or the day after. But still, if it's good, keep encouraging people to buy tickets so we get a sequel that much faster.)

Didn't change my mind. I still think it will suck... though I hope not. I reserve the right to hate M. Night Schmaltz and all he stands for, including the reason he took on the Avatar story ("don't worry, sweetie, Daddy will make it so the REAL Katara will be at your birthday party.").
But I do plan on seeing it, at least once, and I think the pain will be eased a bit by seeing it with you guys. *sniff* I'm fairly certain that visually, this film will kick serious ass. They've hired some awesome digital designers. (Not that I'm biased or anything.) However, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if, by the end of this movie, people will be asking us "Why do you have a red mark on your forehead?"

Re: ATLA: Live Action Movie
Yay sweettalker!!
If the movie does turn out to be really bad...well, I'll be disappointed, but HEY, at least we got lucky enough for someone to want to make it into a movie ^^.
Though I am sad to wait until February...that just means they have that much longer to make the trailer happy...so...plus we also had practice waiting for TEN MONTHS for Book Three (omg I was so close to ripping my hair out...)
"If so, my best guess is that we’ll be seeing the first full length trailer on February 12th, attached to Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief."
Good good good...my little sisters expressed interest in seeing that movie...though I'll probably see it online first, nothing's better than seeing it on the big screen.

See, this is why we need to catch that first midnight showing, to avoid the "mooooOOOOOOOMMEEE!" crowd that shows up during regular hours.
